City of Oporto

Classified as World Heritage Site by UNESCO, since 1996, the city of Porto is situated in the Douro river estuary, in the north of Portugal, and is one of the oldest European cities. With a conservative but welcoming environment, Porto is characterized by being a contemporary city, full of touristic and artistic attractions.

How to get to Porto

By air:
The city airport is located about 11 Km north of the downtown of Porto. Connections to the city center can be made by public transport (bus or subway) or by rent-a-car service.
By land:
  • Road access: There are three major highways that connect Porto to Lisbon (A1), Minho (A3) and Trás-os-Montes (A4). In addition to the highway connecting Porto to Valença (IC1 / A28). it is also possible to get to Porto from several European destinations by regular bus services (Rede Nacional de Expressos and InterNorte).
  • Train access:: There is also the possibility to access the city by train, through CP, (Comboios de Portugal) with frequent international connections. There are two main stations in Porto: Station Campanhã and Station S. Bento. The Porto-Lisbon Alfa Pendular or InterCity services are excellent options.

Public urban transportation

Within the city, the public transport service is provided mainly by bus (STCP) and subway (Metro do Porto).
For those coming from the train station Porto - S. Bento, there are two options:
